Friendly fixture 19th June2010 KO 10:30 WALLSEND EAGLES V HARTLEPOOL (FRIENDLY) This game was a great chance for the recent new signings to get a run out and also put some players in different positions but the game itself was not a easy as we first thought as Hartlepool, although very naïve were very enthusiastic, and had some very good players, who I am sure will improve the more games they play. The opening score came on 5 minutes after a great star from the visitors had kept the Eagles pinned in their own half until new signing, Patrick Sowter, scored an excellent try from great individual skill to dart over from 10 yards. It wasn’t to be a great day for the goal kickers as Sinc missed due to the very strong wind. Straight from the kick off Hartlepool re-gathered and went up the field and on the 5th tackle managed to work the ball out wide to score. Their kicker was also off target. It didn’t take long for the Eagles to start to play some excellent attacking rugby. On the11th minute the ball passed through 10 different players hands for Sinc Matthews to score wide out. He was again off target with the kick. From that moment the Eagles then started to throw the ball about which lead to quick trys from Alex Glover, new recruit Joe Atkinson and a second from Sinc Matthews made the score, with two successful kicks to 24- 4 by half time. The second half was much more defensive by both teams as they started to ring the changes to allow all the team to play apart in what was an enterprising second half. Further try’s, two from Matthews which brought his tally to 4 for the day, and Alex Glover kept the score board ticking over while the Eagles defence was solid and kept the visitors at bay. Further tries towards the end of the game saw Joe Atkinson score his second and Richard Elliot rap up the scoring on 54 minutes with a virtual full length of the field try, which saw 8 different players involved.
